It&#39;s illegal and destroys your table tennis balls.

I suggest a premade paddle if you&#39;re just starting out, seeing that custom paddles where you choose the blade (wooden part) and rubber are confusing and difficult to buy if you don&#39;t really have a true style.

You probably do not want to spend $50 to start.  I&#39;d say go no higher than $30.  Once you get really good and perfect your strokes, upgrade and get a custom paddle.  Hopefully, by then you&#39;ll have read up a lot about table tennis and know what your style is and how to best capitalize on that.
